Digging through old records, a revelation

So we're cleaning out the accounting records, and anything over ten years old can go away. Digging around we came across this old invoice, from 1991, for our very first ever computer workstation. The Apple Mac Quadra 900, a monster of a tower, with 16 slots for RAM (maximum 4mb each!) that had to be filled equally, and a badass 25MHz (you read that right) Motorola xx040 processor. We also added one of the earliest 1GB hard drives available, a massive 19" monitor with color calibration, and other outstanding accoutrement.

The biggest thing that struck me, obviously, was the price...the comptuer itself, with a tiny fraction of the processing power available today, was sold in '91 for the equivalent of $13,878.52 accounting for inflation! I scanned a page the invoice so you could see the other costs, like the printers, the color calibration (!!!), and so on.

You'll notice we had a couple PCs on there too, which were a little spendy as well, but nowhere near the Mac. I had the Quadra in my garage for a half-dozen years before I realized it had become a mouse hotel. Those NuBus slots left a huge gap in the back, and the mice apparently thought it came with a restroom. Not a pretty sight.

Check out the price on that scanner as well! I remember it...it was not a good scanner.

Well I thought you'd enjoy this little trip down memory lane. With technology, time can rapidly make a fool of anyone. Any weird tech memories you'd like to share?
