Heineken says: "Not in NYC? Don't call me"
Heineken took a weird step in announcing out loud they don't want agencies not in NYC to try and get their business. From AdAge:
- Putting geographic restrictions on an agency search -- or, at least, announcing those restrictions -- is a highly unusual move. After all, it would disqualify creative powerhouses that don't have major beer accounts, such as San Francisco-based Goodby, Silverstein & Partners, Miami-based Crispin Porter & Bogusky and Richmond, Va.-based Martin Agency. All three have beer-category experience and no current beer clients.
While of course geopgraphic requirements weigh in on agency decisions, saying it out loud comes off kind of unusual. Even then the caliber of talent being completely left out of the discussion for Heineken bodes ill for their future efforts.
