History

We started 20-years ago with nothing. There was supposed to be four of us but the sales guy got cold feet leaving Roger, our designer, Marilyn, the facts & figures girl and me, the creative director.

By default, I became the new business getter or sales guy. I was terrible. Insecure, unpolished...But I learned. I read Tom Hopkins. Took Dale Carnegie classes. And we were good.

We signed our first contract with the City of Oceanside by building rapport with a client, who later became a good friend. Then we became the agency of record for Sanyo by being patient and, of course, building another solid relationship. This also relates to Listening. A media representative, who did lots of business with Sanyo, told me that the best way to earn their business was to be patient, to do what's asked without being greedy or pushy. And, oh yes, to take Joe Carcone, the Marketing guy golfing.

I did both and Sanyo became one of our longest term (18-years) and best clients.

In fact, Mr. Carcone and I have become long-term friends. And when he moved to a new company---guess who he called for his advertising needs?

We won our first competitive agency run-off when we were awarded the marketing account for the City of Indian Wells. BTW one of the competing agencies was "wired-in" with the city mayor but our creative product overruled the relationship.

Our dear, dear partner, Roger retired 10-years ago after grooming his successor. He died of cancer 2-years ago this May. We miss him dearly.

Perhaps our most interesting client ever is David Jenkins, a three time Olympian. We helped David name and launch a protein supplement, Designer Whey. This brand started in a lab jar and we helped David establish it as the number one selling protein supplement on the market today.

Through the years we've employed our kids, nephews, nieces and lots of very interesting people. We've had as many as 18 people working at Quantum at one time. It was one of my goals to be one of the top 10 largest agencies in San Diego.

We rose to the number eight spot, according to the San Diego Business Journal, and it wasn't the thrill I had hoped. So we've pared back on staff and sign clients whose products light our fire.

Most recently, we bought a building and relocated to Oceanside.
